The country may be under lockdown, but that isn’t stopping Swindon Carers Centre from celebrating Carers’ Week 2020. In fact, the lockdown has seen a rise in the number of people providing unpaid care to family and friends, so it’s more important than ever to ‘Make Caring Visible’ and shine a light on their tremendous efforts.

Swindon Carers Centre (SCC) is getting creative in the ways that it’s pulling people together for Carers’ Week 2020. This year, they’re taking to social media with a range of activities that are sure to spark a smile. From ‘Musical Monday’ to ‘Funky Feet Friday’, SCC has set a challenge for each day of the week, which all are invited to join in with. Those who take part are then encouraged to share photos, videos and stories with SCC via their Facebook and Twitter pages, where they can connect with other unpaid carers and see what other members of the community are getting up to.

To round off #CarersWeek2020, SCC are holding their annual ‘Walk A Mile’ event which is a sponsored walk open to everyone – whether it’s a walk around their home or a socially-distanced ramble in the great outdoors.

The walk will take place on Saturday the 13th of June and will raise money for Swindon Carers Centre and all the valuable work they do.

Anyone who wants to support the cause can also print a ‘Walk a Mile’ poster, available on the SCC website, which can be coloured in and displayed in a window to raise awareness. In their words: ‘we’d like you to join in regardless of whether you are able to fundraise or not’, so strap on your walking boots or stick up a poster, and don’t forget to show SCC know what you’re up to by either Facebook, Twitter or email
